Talk:The Pillars

Okay, so for Pillar size: the Washington Monument is 555 feet tall and 55 feet across at the base for comparison. It's pretty tall, no doubt, but well within human standards. In fantasy land, kinda small I'd say, especially if we're going for awe-inspiring.

the Burj Khalifa is the tallest man-made thing on Earth, at 2,722 feet and I don't know how big across. At Washington Monument proportions it'd be ~270 feet wide.

I'd say this is more what we're going for - Each pillar is 2,500 feet tall, 250 feet wide at the base and, let's say, 150 feet at the top of the shaft before it forms into a pyramid. This would give us an obelisk structure that looks like the Washington monument but the size of the Burj Khalifav --Whinehurst (talk) 11:26, 12 November 2014 (PST)

So we're not going with the massive reaches the upper atmosphere tall? If we're not doing that, then are we still doing the thing where they go as deep as the core of the planet?

The Underdark extends miles underground, so how deep do we want them to go? --Spookyhappyfun (talk) 12:18, 12 November 2014 (PST)

I don't know how deep, but I remember Mark didn't want them to go to space, just, like, very tall instead. --Whinehurst (talk) 12:33, 12 November 2014 (PST)
There was some talk about having them reach to the planet's core. What about having them touch at the core? --Wintermute27 (talk) 10:11, 13 November 2014 (PST)

'The Pillar's' Consolidation

I'd like to consolidate all the pillars onto one page; I don't imagine we'll have that much background for each individual pillar to merit a page each. --Whinehurst (talk) 11:27, 12 November 2014 (PST)

Works for me. When originally creating the pages, I think I had thought that we'd put info about the domains in each individual page as well as the history of whatever city had been founded there. But feel free to consolidate into the one page and just make separate sections for each one. --Spookyhappyfun (talk) 12:08, 12 November 2014 (PST)

Actually, Matt, I think you are the only one with the power to delete a page. It has to be a sysop. --Spookyhappyfun (talk) 06:04, 13 November 2014 (PST)

I did a sample edit to the Gedik Pillar entry, is this format ok? For the descriptive text of each pillar, I figure we can include things such as physical features around the pillar, buildings and structures on or around the pillar base, and anything of cultural significance to local worship. As an example, since the Gedish Pillar covers Artifice and Earth, I think it makes sense to have a subterranean cavern surrounding the pillar underground that is designed and maintained by the dwarves of Serpent Belly that live in Khar Yamaat (I'm picturing the great halls of stone in Moria). --Wintermute27 (talk) 10:40, 13 November 2014 (PST)

yeah, it'll be easier to see what the domains are that way; i'm more interested in getting a blurb for each --Whinehurst (talk) 15:20, 13 November 2014 (PST)
