Revision as of 16:17, 30 November 2014

Okay I tried to organize the races by populations into largest, mediumest and smallest - we should also add whatever races are in the world but not a "core" race, and figure out their role in the world. --Whinehurst (talk)

What's an Alepokin? --Spookyhappyfun (talk) 12:00, 12 November 2014 (PST)

that's mike's furry fetish Kitsune (fox people) replacement. They weren't introduced in-game though; but then neither were the Summus so I'm not sure if they're cannon or not. --Whinehurst (talk) 09:32, 13 November 2014 (PST)
We discussed them at the beginning and no one vetoed them. --Wintermute27 (talk) 12:18, 13 November 2014 (PST)

Languages

I'm going to put this here. This is my recommendation for regional and racial languages in the world.

Regional Dialects:

  • Common - I think we should remove it. Having real language barriers is fun.
  • Adafaer - I don't see this area having a regional language. The Tower Elves and Gnomes (the major populations here) each do their own thing in their own areas.
  • Skyros - Sylvan.
  • Gedik - Here we have the Kobolds, Humans, and Shard living in close-ish proximity to each other. I think racial languages will be the norm here, With the humans speaking some form of Meridian.
  • Karmir - A melting pot of activity. Why so many people want to live here when it is mostly desert is beyond me. The early natives here were the Humans and Ifrit. So maybe Jannti or a variation of it would be prominent.
  • Grunik - Here we have Humans, Gnolls, and Dwarves. Again here I think that having a common regional language would be less fun. Picture a Gnoll, decked out in fine robes acting as a translator to a human king.
  • (Eastern Grunik) - Mostly Orcs and Shokan which each have their own racial languages (orc and giant).
  • Meridia - This is, I think, where the most widespread human languages would come from.

Racial Dialects:

  • Elven - There are two distinct Elvish languages. The Tower Elves speak Seldruin and the Timber Elves speak Espruar (or whatever we decide to call them).
  • Human - For humans the 3 groups are Karmir, Grunik, and Meridia-Gedik, each with their own language. Maybe even 2-3 languages in Meridia since we have independent City-States here.
  • Dwarven - Do we want there to be multiple Dwarven languages? Matt had the most impact on the spread of this race, what do you say?
  • Gnomes - We have the Gnomes in Adafaer and the Gnomes of Gedik, which have been separate for hundreds of years. I'd like them to have similar but ultimately different languages (ie Portuguese and Spanish).
  • Nerid - They are pretty far spread so I imagine that they have some variance in their language. Also, they might even have one language for underwater communication and another for above.

Other:

  • Sylph and Ifrit - I think these two share a language: Jannti. This is the language used by Djinn and Efreet, the progenitors of the Sylph and Ifrit.

Other than that, I think most other races are small enough or stayed close enough together for a long enough time to have a single racial language like Draconic, Orc, and Gnoll. --Wintermute27 (talk) 13:09, 24 November 2014 (PST)

I'm commenting to bump this, as I added this right at the beginning of all the spam posts and I'd like to work out the language issue before the first game. --Wintermute27 (talk) 15:17, 30 November 2014 (PST)

>>EDIT Whinehurst (talk) 10:09, 14 November 2014 (PST) THIS IS OUR FINAL FORM(?)

It looks good to me. I think this is a fair compromise. --Wintermute27 (talk) 16:06, 14 November 2014 (PST)

I would try to stick as close to the model presented in the offical Paizo Pathfinder SRD as it is clean and readable. I also think it's good practice to use indents only sparingly. --Whinehurst (talk) 09:50, 13 November 2014 (PST)

I was borrowing the formatting of the d20pfsrd website as seen here which I find a little easier to read and the categories of traits comes from the Advanced Race Guide. --Wintermute27 (talk) 12:18, 13 November 2014 (PST)
Yeah i know, i just don't think it's as clean looking; it's mostly an aesthetic choice, i just think it's strange to have subheadings with only two lines underthem --Whinehurst (talk) 13:03, 13 November 2014 (PST)
I updated the Kobold page to incorporate some of the changes. I cut back on the indenting and went to a bulleted list of traits. IS that more of what you were looking for? --Wintermute27 (talk) 16:26, 13 November 2014 (PST)
I think it looks cleaner like that; especially cutting the indents; they were superfluous i think. I know the d20pfsrd uses the independent headings for racial trait categories, but in my opinion they're not really needed here - but that's just a matter of taste. The way i formatted the Ifrit page is my preference... I guess we'll hash it out in the arena --Whinehurst (talk) 17:52, 13 November 2014 (PST)
